Another good day’s walk from Melrose to Lauder, walking through farm tracks, minor roads and on farmland, which might be muddy.
Start the walk at the impressive chain bridge, over the River Tweed and along the riverbank. Then take the minor road and keep walking until you eventually start to walk across farmland. At a fork in the track turn left and after a short distance turn right and keep walking until you reach Bluecairn Farm and there you can join the farm track.
Carry straight on at the crossroads, through a wood and on to the minor road at Woodhead’s Hill. Cross the road, walk beside the woods and walk across the open fields where you can see Lauder. Descend the burn, past the golf course, crossing Chester Hill and when you reach Lauder Old Church, you are in Lauder.
Lauder is an attractive town is 27 miles away from Edinburgh. You can visit Thirlestane Castle and the Greenknowe Tower.
