Today’s walk from Lauder to Longformacus is slightly longer and will take you up hills and across the moorland on paths and tracks.
The walk starts at East High Street and passes through the grounds of Thirlestane Castle. Take the track down to Leader Water and cross the bridge walking along to Earnscleugh Water and through the woodland to the A697. Cross the road and follow the track into the woodland and back out to climb up and down a hill to Snawden Burn and then on to Blyth Water where you cross the river at the wooden footbridge.
Cross Scour Rig and follow the track on to the moorland of Lammermuirs and up to Twin Moor at 1466 feet (447m) and the two stone cairns that have been built there. Follow the track down Twin Moor to Watch Water, past Scarlaw farm, heading towards the Watch Water Reservoir.
Follow the track along the water’s edge and up and across the knoll and back down to Watch Water and after a short distance to Dye water and then the small village of Longformacus.
